To meet the family, economical, and lifestyle needs of a student in the 21st century, the Practical Nursing diploma program provides a more adaptable option to allow students to learn in a more manageable study program with a focus on practical and knowledge skills.
Practical nursing is the second largest nursing group in Canada. Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) combining nursing knowledge, skill, and judgement to treat health conditions, promote health, prevent illness, and assist clients to achieve optimal levels of health and wellness. LPNs use the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the outcomes of holistic care provided to diverse clients and their families throughout their lifespan, as disease progresses, as well as through palliative stages.
As a regulated nursing profession, LPNs practise within the provincially established scope of practice, competency standards, and code of ethics. In the provision of care, LPNs acknowledge their client's uniqueness and complexities.
The curriculum provides learners with multiple learning opportunities to develop, integrate, and demonstrate knowledge, skills and judgment that are translated into superior reflective practice and meets all BCCNP (British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals) competencies and standards.
